To Catch a Thief

It was a warm Saturday at the Hollywood Cemetery where hundreds of moviegoers squeezed in beside each other for a seat on the lawn near the back of the giant mausoleum. Security directed people to sit on the pavement and to Get off the headstones!

We were encouraged to bring our own food and beverages, so the eight of us indulged in a bean salad, corn chips & humus, and a little wine. Almost everybody else brought candles, but we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly despite leaving the candles at home.

After our light supper, the movie began with Cary Grant playing the lead role as the famous Cat burglar, suspected of a recent wave of high profile thefts. I'd watched the film when I was younger, but I'd totally forgotten how many innuendos were in the film. I laughed all the way through the film as the characters continually spar together (also my roommates were laughing loudly, and I'm highly suggestible).

That's the advantage of the city—there are always interesting things to do. The trick is to know when and where they're happening. Another advantage of living in community is that we already have each other as friends to go and do things with. Days like Saturday make me realize that LA's not so bad after all.
